Announcing a new contest for NJ2MM:
The Marilyn Inspirations / Blondie Book Contest
The theme of this contest is celebrities who were inspired or influenced by (or are big fans
of) Marilyn.
One celebrity who was inspired by Marilyn is Deborah Harry (Blondie.) A new book about
her, "Blondie, from Punk to the Present: A Pictorial History," compiled by Allan Metz, contains
some references about how Marilyn influenced and inspired her. Here is one quote from the book:
"Many healthy minded children and teenagers fantasize about living an alternative lifestyle
or of following an exciting career. Deborah Harry was no different. She would often sneak down
to her parent's cellar, open up the trunk of discarded clothes and dress herself up as one of the
stars of the "silver screen." Harry had a particular fascination with perhaps the ultimate
female icon of the time, Marilyn Monroe. It had been rumoured that Monroe had given up a child
for adoption in the mid-1940s. With Harry herself adopted, this was a perfect reason to fantasize
about Marilyn Monroe being her mother."
A copy of this book, autographed by Allan Metz, is the prize of this contest!
Whether you are a fan of Blondie or not, this book is still a great collectors item. All
you have to do for a chance to win it, is to post to the group about a celebrity who was
inspired or influenced by Marilyn, or is a known Marilyn fan.
Now, we are NOT looking for celebrities who just dressed up in a Marilynesque costume for
their own copy of a Marilyn photo shoot. They must be quoted talking about Marilyn, or be known
to have their own Marilyn collection, or be photographed more than once wearing a Marilyn tshirt
or carrying a Marilyn purse... something like that.
I know that's a bit vague, and no doubt the staff of NJ2MM will have to decide if some of
the contest entries qualify or not, but there are a lot of famous people out there who fit
the description. Each valid entry posted will be added to a list, and the winner will be chosen at
random from that list.
So, do some research, and post what you find to the group!
